The Oscars

So, I didn't watch any of the Oscars, but I did read the results. The King's Speech swept the Oscars winning four awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The Fighter didn't do too shabby claiming both Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Natalie Portman won Best Actress, while Colin Firth took best Actor. Inception took home 4 Oscars as well including best cinematography. Overall I was satisfied with the awards that were given out. Since I haven't seen The King's Speech, I can't say for sure if I agree with the amount of awards it had won. I have seen its competition (minus 127 Hours and Winter's Bone) and it was strong. I personally would have liked to see True Grit win best picture. I think Darren Aronofsky should have won Best Director, but I am a fan of Aronofsky so that contributes to my bias. I also think that Hailee Steinfeld should have won best supporting actress as Mattie Ross in True Grit just because she did such a good job. Colin Firth is an incredible actor so I am sure he earned his award. Once I see The King's Speech, maybe I will see why it was so well recieved and I will likely understand why it took the Oscars by storm.

  1. I agree that True Grit should have won something in the Oscars! It was such a great movie (coming from someone who is impartial to westerns), and I also thought Mattie Ross did an amazing job!!
