Coming to Theatres - Fast Five

Releasing: April 29th, 2011

The crew is back now following Dominic's lead in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Brian and Dom's crew must finish off one more job so they can regain their freedom. They must track down a Brazilian Drug Lord and dodge an FBI agent who is determined to turn in Brian and Dom into the authorities. The cast of the past four Fast and Furious movies have come together in the final of the series, so this movie is definitely going to be a thrill ride.

As much as I love The Fast & The Furious, every sequel has shown to be less focused on the initial purpose of street racing as it is now focused on drug trafficking and making money. My favorite of all the Fast & the Furious movies I have to say was the first one because of the focus was put on street racing. The last movie, Fast & Furious (a.k.a Fast and Furious 4), was an action-packed thriller but the emphasis on cars was less.

I'm excited about this movie however in the reunion of Brian (Paul Walker) and Dominic (Vin Diesel), after Brian helped Dom escape prison while he was aboard a prison bus in the Fast & Furious movie. The return of Fast & Furious 3, Tyrese Gibson and also the new addition to the Fast Five cast,  Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who comes in as a relentless FBI agent trying to track down Brian and Dominic, is bound to make a heck of a good movie. What can I say? I'm excited thanks to the cast :)

Movies in Theatres - Red Riding Hood

Releasing: Friday, March 11th

Jennifer's Body Amanda Seyfried is back in this fantasy and horror movie about a young girl residing in a medieval village who falls in love with an orphaned woodcutter. To her demise, the pact that her village and the werewolf have has been broken, thus killings have been more prominent. Not only that, but her family has planned for Seyfried to marry a man she does not love and in her decision to run away with her only true love, the woodcutter, she runs into trouble when the wolf decides to hunt them down.

I can't wait to see this movie! I am a huge Twilight fan and enjoy every single movie, so knowing that the director of Twilight is also directing Red Riding Hood increases my desire to go watch it. My fascination for mystical creatures have always been vampires and werewolves, especially taking place in a medieval setting and this movie offers that. Also, the pale opaque colors create suspense and I love that the only thing that stands out is the infamous Red Riding Hood Cape. I suspect this movie to be similar to that of Underworld and a bit of Twilight essence. If you are fascinated by werewolves and are a twilight fan, I recommend you check this movie out!

Movies in Theatres- Battle: Los Angeles

Battle: Los Angeles
(Releasing: Friday March 11th)
Rated: PG-13

Based on the previews, this movie reminds me of a combination of Independence Day and District 9. Apparently UFO sightings in different countries such as Argentina, France, Germany, and China had been spotted for several years. It wasn't until 2011 that these unknown forces declared a war on Earth and began to attack. All the big cities begin to fall, and Los Angeles is the last standing. The Marines have to face a force they have never encountered and it is up to them to protect mankind.

The reasons for these "Aliens" to attack Earth? I cannot come to a conclusion based on the few clips released, but it will be interesting to see what the justification is. If this movie is like District 9 where the extraterestrial beings were mistreated and put under experimentation, I see it acceptable for them to attack Earth. This movie is a must-see. :)

Let Me In

A girl in white bedclothes curled up in a foetal position, upside down, against a red background fading to black.

Talk about a movie let-down!!!! This movie is supposed to be a thriller/horror movie, yet it turns out to be a love story between two 12 year-olds!!! Not only is it complete false advertising it is also rated R which makes no sense. I mean, sure there are some gory parts that are just really disgusting but I think young teens see much more gruesome things on their video games. Any way, the plot of this movie deals with a little boy who gets picked on at school a lot. One day he notices that his new neighbor girl is kind of odd. She only comes out at night and she wears no shoes and she lives with only with her "dad." To make a long story short the little boy and the girl become bff's. The little boy discovers the girl is a "vampire" but he doesn't mind it...I realize I am giving a lot of the movie away, but honestly it just wasn't that good of a movie.

Just some back ground info: the movie is based on an older Swedish movie directed by Tomas Alfredson in 2008 called, Let the Right One In.

The main actors of this "scary" movie are Kodi Smit-McPhee as the bullied boy and Chloe Grace Moretz as Abby the vampire girl.

X-Men First Class

Ok, watch this.

This looks awesome. I know it won't be out for a while, but I am totally stoked for this film. If this film falls short of fantastic I will be upset. If it does, however, the promoters for this film did their job because it looks sick. James McAvoy might not be as a perfect of a pick for Professor X as Patrick Stewart was, but I do like James McAvoy so he should be good. The choice for Magneto is exceptional, even though I have never heard of the actor playing him, he just seems like a young Magneto. I'll be there opening night for sure. Also, I love X-Men.

The Oscars

So, I didn't watch any of the Oscars, but I did read the results. The King's Speech swept the Oscars winning four awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The Fighter didn't do too shabby claiming both Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Natalie Portman won Best Actress, while Colin Firth took best Actor. Inception took home 4 Oscars as well including best cinematography. Overall I was satisfied with the awards that were given out. Since I haven't seen The King's Speech, I can't say for sure if I agree with the amount of awards it had won. I have seen its competition (minus 127 Hours and Winter's Bone) and it was strong. I personally would have liked to see True Grit win best picture. I think Darren Aronofsky should have won Best Director, but I am a fan of Aronofsky so that contributes to my bias. I also think that Hailee Steinfeld should have won best supporting actress as Mattie Ross in True Grit just because she did such a good job. Colin Firth is an incredible actor so I am sure he earned his award. Once I see The King's Speech, maybe I will see why it was so well recieved and I will likely understand why it took the Oscars by storm.

The Town

I used to think that Ben Affleck was not a very good actor but after seeing this movie which he directed as well as acts in it, my opinion changed a bit. The plot of this movie deals with a bank robber (Ben) from Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, and his crew, who are really good at what they do. However after one of their jobs Ben finds himself falling for the bank manager. This ends up complicating things later on and it is a thrilling plot!!!

The other actors in the movie are Rebecca Hall   http://www.celebrityportal.org/rebecca-hall/
